Used barrel

6 posts in this topic

I was at an auction recently and included in a fair size lot of miscellaneous was a johnson 7mm barrel by appearance it looked in good condition with the exception of the muzzle the ID was bored oversize and threaded about 1/2 inch deep with fairly fine threads, is there a rational explanation for this? It should not be for a muzzle brake, as this might interfere with the rifle's recoil operating system. It might be for a flash hider?

"the muzzle the ID was bored oversize and threaded about 1/2 inch deep with fairly fine threads"

Old European silencer mounting. Mostly in pistols though. Seen a few Walther's and Beretta's threaded this way. No external threads to give away the mounting at a quick glance.

Again, might a silencer affect the recoil performance?

"Again, might a silencer affect the recoil performance?"

Yes unless sniping using the charging handle like a bolt gun until the silencer was removed. Another thought it could be threaded for blank adapter use in a movie gun. Would not in either case be able to self load due to not enough recoil impulse...IMHO
