...really goes to reinforce the "buy the gun, not the story" issue.

A nice looking gun, but probably has been re-parkerized....and with "no supporting provenance".  Just some "sellers word". Is it worth the $$? You can bet someone will part with their money!

Even the pitting has been parkerized. I think it has been refinished.

I agree with flyer.  This one was up for sale a while back.  I was curious if it would sell so I followed it for a while.  I saw a 1911 in a local shop that claimed it was on a special ship during war time. They were asking 10k.   Don’t know if it sold.

Sounds like male bovine excrement to me. Word of mouth is not provenance and only idiots take word of mouth for facts, especially as that pistol was arsenal refinished.

Agree on the re-parkerizing and probable re-finishing. I'd love to see the paperwork proving service on Iwo-Jima. In any case, I agree with EB above as to the summary. all told..
