Happy Holidays. . . and Thanks!

7 posts in this topic

I just want to take a moment to wish everyone the happiest of holidays and a prosperous and healthy New Year. I also want to take time to say thanks to all the folks who contribute to the Johnson legacy by not only providing answers, expertise, and help to those seeking info -- whether historical or technical -- on MMJ, Jr. and his firearms, but those who are posting questions in search of that info.

I hope that I speak (well. . .write) for Bruce and Ed when I say that there is more info to be discovered and published about the Johnson firearms saga and that we hope our efforts reflected in "THE book" will be continued by diligent researchers both in the U.S. and abroad. I suspect that there are still some "unfound" JLMGs in -- probably -- North Africa, these from the FSSF, and who knows if there might be a cache of JSARs somewhere waiting to be discovered. (Of course, they probably would never be allowed in the U.S., but that is another story.)

I also want to express appreciation to John D. and Joe S. for the work they have done (and are doing) to keep Johnson firearms in safe, functioning condition. And to Walt for all he has done.

Most importantly, I think we all owe Jim P. a great deal of appreciation and thanks for not only this website, but for the research he has done on Johnson firearms that should be published.

To all: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

 Christmas is a great time of year for many folks, except that it is a reminder for some that we are getting older.

As some of you know, in the Johnson family, we lost my sister, Gail, to cancer last year. Then, earlier this year, we lost my mother, Virginia, age 96, who was Melvin M Johnson, Jr's widow.

This leaves my older brother, Mel III (who helped Bob Lamoreaux with the initial Johnson book manuscript before Bruce Canfield joined us) plus myself, as the sons of the inventor. Between the two of us, we have 4 children and, so far, 3 grandchildren.

We are also blessed with having some younger friends to help carry on my father's legacy, if you will, including our Webmaster, Jim Pullen and book publisher, Stuart Mowbray. We will always be especially grateful to both these men for their outstanding efforts, as well as to Bob, Bruce, John Darling, Joe Scott, Brian Alpert and Walt Liss (who still wants to drive off in a tank from Aberdeen Proving Ground) of the Website Team.

And so, to the members of this website team, to those of you who have benefited from the use of this website and to those of you who have helped us with your support, including Alasdair Macdonald, have a Merry Christmas and (hopefully) a Happy, prosperous New Year.

Ed Johnson, on behalf of the entire Johnson family.

A Little Poem I like to post each year.. Enjoy.

'Twas the night before Christmas, cold, dark and foreboding,

As I sat at the workbench, quite busy reloading.

The empties from autumn were polished so clear

For primers and powder, and bullets from Speer

And Sierra boat-tails, and Nosler's Partitions

(My bench ain't no place for brand name omissions!)

All sat in their boxes, right next to the press

With dies from Midway, and RCBS.

When all of a sudden there came such a jolt,

I grabbed for my Johnson, and whipped out my Colt.

As I spilled Hodgdon's powder all over the shelf

I scrambled for cover, just to protect myself

From up on the rooftop, came hoofbeats and snorting

Like the noise out of L'il Rock, from Clinton's cavorting!

I eased off the safety, to press-check my auto

With 230-hardball, I'd knock 'em all blotto.

Were these rogue federal agents, sent by Schumer and Reno?

Or a staggering Ted Kennedy, in bad need of vino?

My question was answered with a knock, and some sneezing,

"It's Santa, you moron, lemme in there, I'm freezing!"

I flipped off the dead-bolt and threw the door open wide,

To find St. Nick a'shivering, Rudolph by his side

He eyeballed my Commander, with a nod of approval

"You're all set," he said, "for dirtball removal."

"But this is no raid, we're not here to harm you

Or persecute, prosecute, or even disarm you"

Instead, said dear Santa, he needed to borrow

My .357, 'till day after tomorrow.

"It's okay," he assured me, with a hint of frustration.

"I'm enrolled in the National Rifle Association"

He showed me his card, 'twas a Life Member rating

"I've had this since me and the missus were dating!"

"And you see, John ol' buddy, I've gotten real nervous

Since Feinstein was elected, with a promise to serve us"

So henceforth as I'm out there, my presents a'stackin'

"I want to assure you, I'm legally packin'"

"And my gift for you this year, should give you a hoot

"I've told the Supreme Court to give Brady the boot!

Now, Rudy and I must be on our way"

He said, as he climbed back on the seat of his sleigh.

With the reins in his hand, and my Smith in his pocket

He jingled the sleighbells and was off like a rocket

With a pair of speedloaders, and ammo to spare

I knew he'd be safe, he was loaded for bear

As he faded from view, I could still hear him calling

"From D.C., where 'P.C.' is already falling

"To bad guys in L.A., Detroit and Atlanta:

I'm licensed to carry. Don't be messin' with Santa!"

"Merry Christmas and Good Night!"
