30.06 ammo

4 posts in this topic

Johnson's were designed for M2 ball ammo (150gr) available through CMP. However they will shoot any commercial

.30-06. I generally do not recommend bullet weights over 180gr. Some members shoot reloads with success. If you get the cases going out about 20 ft, you should check your main spring length. Length should 12". The 1903 Springfield stripper clips were used.

Yeah DON'T use 180 or higher.

Not only will it kick the s***t out of you but you run the risk of breaking the ejector.

I learned the hard way about the kicking got lucky and didn't break anything, the ejector left a huge ding in the head of the brass.

All this because i grabbed the wrong box out of the ammo can.

I've reloaded for mine using various types of powders and 168gr. Hornady A-Max bullets. I have yet to match the accuracy of the HXP ammo I got from the CMP. My advice is to go Greek - HXP.
