New owner SN lookup!

12 posts in this topic

Hi All,

New guy here. I’m glad to find this wonderful resource! I just bought a JSAR SN 4340 and I am very very excited to get this wonderful gun into my collection.

Can you please help with factory records for this  gun? It’s non letter block, so I assume they are available?

Im also looking for an original bayonet and scabbard. Maybe somebody have a nice one for sale?

Thank you all in advance!

Alex

Here’s odd things about this gun. It was imported by Century Arms judging by hand written mark on the receiver. My thought it’s a one off import or maybe private import, who knows.

Barrel, bolt and stock were renumbered to match SN on receiver.

Here are current part numbers:

Magazine E2041;

Hammer 2285;

Hammer Block 2228;

Extractor 2970;

Bolt link 3618

Bolt 6099, additionally marked 4340;

Firing pin A799;

Barrel 4242E, additionally numbered 4340. Standard markings on collar and barrel for 30-06.

Here are photos overall, sorry for the bad light.

Also photos of the additional numbers.

Rifle was pretty dirty. I took it apart and did a deep cleaning. I took detailed pictures of all parts, please ask if anything interesting is needed.

Please share your thoughts!

Thank you!

Hi Alex

Thanks for posting the photos. I am sure someone will chime in if they see any other really weird stuff. The stock looks to be in decent shape and the rifle appears to be in full military form. The addition of the 4340 to other rifle parts is just someone's attempt at feeling better about their possession. Sorry about the import stamp. As you will learn, several of the rifles parts were serial numbered, but it was for the parts, not the rifle.

Thank you Art! Yes, I read about parts numbering and as you see from my list above none are same as from original issuance. But it’s understandable because rifle likely was refurbished in service somewhere.

Is that internal spring In firing pin stop An essential piece? Or it should not be there?

The retainer spring is not essential.  I have seen originals which never had the clip.  Don't know why, maybe a minor cost savings at request of Dutch inspectors?

Hi Joe,

My retainer don’t have a room to put spring in. Was the purpose of it to just keep it in place to ease up reassembly of the rifle? In my case I have to be careful during assembly to keep it in place.

It appears that the rifle is missing both the front and rear cross pins as well as the retaining clip for the front pin.  These are attached to the forearm with a twisted brad.  I suspect this rifle was a private import, perhaps from Canada, handled through Century Arms. It was easier to electro engrave their mark for a single rifle than roll out their import stamp.   As noted, firing pin stops came both with and without spring clip retainers.  Those without were not made with any provision or room for a spring clip.
