I agree, even if think the ammo is mildly corrosive, clean the heck out of it.
I use a lot of commie block 7.62x25 ammo that is corrosive, but proper cleaning does not have a nick on the barrel or receiver.
Shoot away, and clean accordingly

If you have a cracked stock you can have it repaired at http://www.dgrguns.com/
He had done several for me with great success.
Make sure you have cleance at the rear of the stock and receiver so that the wood is not getting hammered by the stock, this can cause it to RE-Crack.

Hey If Walt dosn't have it i might! Gotta find my stuff again. The pin should be avlb. through gun parts. if not i might have an extra also. It dosnt have the top hat for the rear but it works fine in the front. I will check for a mag spring as i am resorting my shop to make space to move in my sister in law ( don't ask ) so all m,y parts stash is now in the open. Let me know what you need and i'll see if i can help. P.S. If any body has an extra pin with the top hat i could use two. or one what ever as i broke one not long ago. Any one who knows what i'm working on will understand that MR. JOHNSON is up and running test fired fine. Some one has a muzzle break i could really use get in touch. thanks RYCHE
I remember that one Johnson SLR that I bought had a replacement spring for the Mag door, it looked like a spring that was used on a close pin. Didnt look pretty, but it worked.
Did you ever find the correct part?

Sounds like you are a candidate for the video the Joseph Scott has developed.

Hello Drew, Welcome to the Johnson rifle board,
Joseph Scott has the recoil spring and parts you are looking for. He is on this board quite often.
Regards, Mitch J.
Hello all,
I'm just a new member of this forum, an military gun collector and enthusiast - simply another gun nut (active duty 84/94 with RM UK so not complete ignorant )
I've got a Johnson 1941 serial number 0280 - I'm assuming that's rather low number (?)
after long hours of cleaning, cleaning & cleaning rifle started to function, forgot to mention previous owner had that poor piece for 30 years or so stored in the wood shed so you can only imagine how she looked like when I've got her
I did test fire that old lady and she prints very nicely
but main recoil spring is very tired and I think that couses failure to extract and double feed
I did exchanged extractor - managed to get one from numrich but those guys are out of main springs
also need forestock cross pin and cross pin for the front of the magazine
please pass on any support info or guidance guys - I don't have a great deal of knowledge on Johnson's
I'm humbly relying on your wisdom
cheers
Drew

'Twas the night before Christmas, cold, dark and foreboding,
As I sat at the workbench, quite busy reloading.
The empties from autumn were polished so clear
For primers and powder, and bullets from Speer
And Sierra boat-tails, and Nosler's Partitions
(My bench ain't no place for brand name omissions!)
All sat in their boxes, right next to the press
With dies from Midway, and RCBS.
When all of a sudden there came such a jolt,
I grabbed for my Johnson, and whipped out my Colt.
As I spilled Hodgdon's powder all over the shelf
I scrambled for cover, just to protect myself
From up on the rooftop, came hoofbeats and snorting
Like the noise out of Illinois, from Obamas cavorting!
I eased off the safety, to press-check my auto
With 230-hardball, I'd knock 'em all blotto.
Were these rogue federal agents, sent by Schumer and Reid?
Or a staggering Kennedy, in bad need of Weed?
My question was answered with a knock, and some sneezing,
"It's Santa, you moron, lemme in there, I'm freezing!"
I flipped off the dead-bolt and threw the door open wide,
To find St. Nick a'shivering, Rudolph by his side
He eyeballed my Commander, with a nod of approval
"You're all set," he said, "for dirtball removal."
"But this is no raid, we're not here to harm you
Or persecute, prosecute, or even disarm you"
Instead, said dear Santa, he needed to borrow
My .357, 'till day after tomorrow.
"It's okay," he assured me, with a hint of frustration.
"I'm enrolled in the National Rifle Association"
He showed me his card, 'twas a Life Member rating
"I've had this since me and the missus were dating!"
"And you see, John ol' buddy, I've gotten real nervous
Since Feinstein was elected, with a promise to serve us"
So henceforth as I'm out there, my presents a'stackin'
"I want to assure you, I'm legally packin'"
"And my gift for you this year, should give you a hoot
"I've told the Supreme Court to give Brady the boot!
Now, Rudy and I must be on our way"
He said, as he climbed back on the seat of his sleigh.
With the reins in his hand, and my Smith in his pocket
He jingled the sleighbells and was off like a rocket
With a pair of speedloaders, and ammo to spare
I knew he'd be safe, he was loaded for bear
As he faded from view, I could still hear him calling
"From D.C., where 'P.C.' is already falling
"To bad guys in L.A., Detroit and Atlanta:
I'm licensed to carry. Don't be messin' with Santa!"
"Merry Christmas and Good Night!"

I contacted the seller and asked if the Plastic shuttle that carries the BB was intact, He said it was not but will check with the former owner.
Without the BB shuttle, it will not fire. Of course you need the surgical tubing bands also.

I also need to send my rifle to Joseph Scott to look at.
I have had times where it fires a three round burst. I didnt load more than three.
I did install a new Mainspring and I thought that was the problem , but who knows.
I also tried doubling the firing pin spring to no avail.
Joe will let me know whats going on.
Joe, Please PM me so I can send this to you.
Thanks, M. Johnson

Hi everyone. I just became the proud owner of a nice Johnson rifle after a quest of twenty years. I ran across a few over that time but they were always priced a few hundred (or thousand) dollars more than I could afford. But that has changed now. I met a fine man at a gun show who had onwed this gun for over twenty years and we reached a selling price we both could live with. I think he knows it will have a good and safe new home. The gun is in its original military state however at this time I'm not sure if it has the original finish. The metal appears to be a very dark color compared to the parkerizing I'm used to on Garands or carbines, but definitely has not been polished.
It is missing a pin just ahead of the magazine that I believe is similar to the hammer block pin. Can anyone tell me where I could find one of these? I have seen some rifles that don't appear to have ever had this pin. When did they quit using it?
My serial number is 4642. I would appreciate any info someone can provide.
I'll post pictures after I get it taken apart and examined.
Thanks for the forum!
Joseph Scott on this board has the parts you need.
