Legislation by Executive Order

5 posts in this topic

I fear that our beloved 1941 Johnsons will fall drastically in value. If the semi-auto ban passes it will most probably include military rifles capable of accepting more than 7 rounds, plus the majority of common hunting rifles.

I've been trying to do my part by filling my congressmen's mail boxes full. I hope you do the same.

I won't speculate exactly which laws or executive orders will befall us tomorrow or next week.

The part about not being able to transfer your weapon to anyone else, including family members upon your death, will ultimately end the possession of firearms altogether.

I don't want this post to ignite a flurry of political posts and rants. I'm simply warning you that if you get a chance to sell off part of your collection....I'd do it quickly.

No reply is necessary.

With all due respect, I see no need to push the panic button on this subject. I do not consider the Johnson Rifle...or even the Garand, for that matter....to be a target of legislation regarding firearms.

For that matter, if it comes to it, I know the Johnson magazines can be modified to accept less than 10 rounds. It occurs to me that this was done to some JSARs in the past so that they could be used for deer hunting in some states.

My suggestion is to remain calm about this subject and not fan the flames. I hope everyone will do that.

Most Military style firearms have doubled or tripled in the last month. Though I do not collect purely as a monetary value. The history and what has been pass down to us by our fathers is of the greatest value.

Very well Said Ed, Thank You. As with all the firearms in my collection, I started collecting johnson rifles because I adore the design, the function, and their history. The increase in value the Johnson rifle has undergone, is astonishing, and of course has meaning, however if they were valued at say the level of a Mosin Nagant, I would just have a larger collection of them, and would adore them just the same. Understanding the sacrifice and devotion that Melvin Johnson put into his design, the incredible innovation, foresight, and how it has influenced current designs just makes it that much more important as a historical masterpiece.

Regards to all, S

Someone mentioned on another gun forum that his Hakim with a 10 rnd detachable mag would be allowed, even under the draconion laws in NY. All he had to do is never put more than 7 rounds in it. I believe it has to do with the age of the firearm. Since the JSAR is even older than the Hakim, I think we'll be fine, but as Mr, Johnson said above...remain calm.

Editing to add this link - http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/docs/wh_now_is_the_time_full.pdf

Scroll about halfway down to page 7 and read the paragraph about Curio & Relics.
